Come to Dam Square on 3 October: global solidarity demonstration against CCP repression

On 1 October, more than 145 Tibetan organisations worldwide stood together in resistance to the occupation of Tibet. On 3 October, it is Amsterdam’s turn.
Date: Saturday 3 October 2026 Time: 13.00 – 15.00 Location: Dam Square, Amsterdam
On 1 October, the Chinese Communist Party celebrated the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. But for Tibetans, Uyghurs, Southern Mongolians and Hong Kongers, that date stands for something altogether different: more than seven decades of occupation, persecution and human rights violations that continue to this day.
On Saturday 3 October, Tibet Support Group Netherlands therefore joins the global solidarity demonstration against repression under the current CCP leadership of Xi Jinping. Together with Tibetan, Uyghur, Southern Mongolian and Hong Kong organisations, Chinese democracy activists and other human rights organisations, we carry one shared message: we will not stay silent in the face of continuing oppression.

Earlier this year at Dam Square: Tibetans, Uyghurs, Southern Mongolians and Chinese democracy activists side by side. On 3 October we will be there again.
One law, many peoples
We are also protesting explicitly against China’s Law on the Promotion of Ethnic Unity and Progress, which took effect on 1 July this year. Behind the language of “unity” lies an assimilation programme: the law codifies Mandarin as the language of instruction and provides a legal basis for policies that systematically hollow out Tibetan language, religion, culture and identity.
Moreover, the law’s reach does not stop at the border. Article 63 extends prosecution powers to organisations and individuals outside the mainland deemed to undermine “ethnic unity” — a direct threat to Tibetans, Uyghurs and Hong Kongers in the diaspora, including here in the Netherlands.

“We refuse to let Tibet die in silence” — protest against the Ethnic Unity Law, Dam Square, 1 July 2026.
A global signal
Amsterdam does not stand alone. In the Global Resist China Day joint statement, more than 145 Tibetan organisations worldwide speak out against the occupation of Tibet and the systematic erasure of Tibetan identity. Around 1 October, demonstrations took place at Chinese embassies and consulates from New Delhi to Sydney, from London to Taipei. In New Delhi, more than forty Tibetan Youth Congress activists were detained during a protest outside the Chinese embassy.
Tibet today is one of the most heavily censored and most closely surveilled places on earth. That is precisely why what is said outside Tibet matters. Every voice at Dam Square is a voice for people who cannot raise their own inside Tibet.
Join us
Come to Dam Square on Saturday and show your solidarity. Bring flags, bring friends. Together, let us send a powerful signal to China’s leaders: the world is watching — and we stand with Tibetans, Uyghurs, Southern Mongolians, Hong Kongers and the many Chinese citizens who continue to fight for freedom, human rights and democracy.
We further call on the Dutch government and the European Union to publicly condemn China’s Ethnic Unity Law, to actively counter the transnational intimidation of diaspora communities on Dutch soil, and to hold China to account for its policy of forced assimilation in Tibet.
Stand together. Speak out for freedom and human rights in China.
