Celebration of the 90th Birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama

The Tibetan community in the Netherlands warmly invites you to celebrate together the 90th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama — a milestone in the life of one of the most beloved spiritual leaders of our time.

A Day of Joy, Compassion, and Connection

For Tibetans around the world, the Dalai Lama’s birthday, Trungkar, is a day of great significance. This year is especially meaningful: we celebrate not only his 90th year of life, but also his lifelong dedication to compassion, universal human values, interreligious harmony, the preservation of Tibetan culture, and keeping ancient Indian wisdom alive in our modern world.

For this reason, 2025 has been declared the Year of Compassion — a tribute to everything the Dalai Lama represents and continues to offer.

What Can You Expect?

From 13:00 to 16:30, Dam Square in Amsterdam will transform into a place of gathering, spirituality, and culture. The program includes:

• A traditional Tibetan welcome ceremony and prayers
• Inspiring speeches by religious leaders and representatives of human rights organizations
• Special guests and representatives from the Tibetan community
• A shared lunch featuring delicious Tibetan dishes
• Cultural performances with Tibetan dance and music
• A short documentary about the life and philosophy of the Dalai Lama
• A festive birthday cake
• A closing light ceremony with prayers for the long life of the Dalai Lama
• The opportunity to leave a personal birthday message, which will be sent to Dharamsala

The Tibet Support Group Netherlands will also be present with its own stand, joining the community in marking this special occasion.
